Using BBB.org (Better Business Bureau) to Check a Business
Better Business Bureau Website
Want to know if there are any complaints against a company? Before you do business with a company you can see their information at BBB.org. If there is more than one business competing for your business, this may help you select the one that does not have complaints.
When you first arrive at BBB.org, you input the location for the company you want to research. From this page you can search by the company name or a category.
For the name you can alternatively use url (uniform resource locator or web address), phone or email. Before you click search, you can click the box for “BBB Accredited Only” so you can find the businesses with ratings. The rating is on a scale of A+ – F.
For the category, as you begin typing the information, you can choose from the drop down list. Confirm that the location is filled in correctly. One note is that when you have results and wish to search another category, you will need to check to see if you need to click the radio button again as it might default back to name.
The results show company information, distance to location selected, and if the company is BBB accredited. Click the business name to see additional details which includes customer complaints and reviews. You can see complaints in the last 3 years and closed in the last 12 months.
To see the details of complaints or reviews, click “Read Complaints” below the list. Then click each entry to see the details. You will find:
- Desired Settlement
- Business Response
- Consumer Response (if given)
You can use BBB.org to see if you want to do business with a specific company, or search by category to find businesses.
