Buying at Best Buy
We have purchased technology products through many different sources, both online and in store. Now we prefer to purchase at Best Buy because of their superior replacement/repair services.
We live in an area that the electricity goes out on a regular basis. At first we purchased our router at another store. But that had to be replaced more than once. One time the problem came through the satellite line. When the repairman was at our house he said there were multiple customers in our area that were hit. That day there was damage to a large TV and a smaller TV.
The large tv was purchased at a really great price on sale. We contacted the warranty company for service, they needed to send someone to our house to work on it. First they had to order parts to be sent. When he arrived, he replaced the parts and it still did not work. They sent the parts and the repairman out two more times before they would accept it did not work. Finally after months they sent us a gift card from that store for the amount we paid.
On the other hand, the smaller TV could be carried in to Best Buy. We went directly to the counter for geek squad. They packaged it and gave us a receipt. Although they said it would take longer, we had it back in about a week.
We used the gift card we received for the non-working TV to make other purchases at that store, and then purchased our new TV at Best Buy when there was a great sale. Also, we now have battery backup power supplies for most of our technology products.

Best Buy Rewards Program is another reason to make purchases at Best Buy. You can get certificates emailed to you that can be used in the store or online. You do not even have to print them out, you can just show them to the clerk at check out. So the more you buy, the more rewards you can earn. I also receive emails from Best Buy asking me to review the products I have purchased to earn more rewards points.
There are three levels of rewards. You can sign up for the first level for free, but need qualifying purchases in a calendar year for the other two levels:
- My Best Buy, 1 point per $1 spent
- Elite, 10% bonus
- Elite Plus, 25% bonus
Additionally, you can get the best price around with Best Buy’s Price Match. Show them a competitors ad for the same product and they will match it. Although I could not find it on their site, we were told that you could bring in an ad up to 30 days after the purchase and get a refund for the difference. The next month I watched other stores for the product, but did not find a better price.
If you purchase technology products through Best Buy, you can earn rewards, get the lowest price and get superior service on damaged products still under the warranty.
